Using countless transparent layers of gouache, Japanese artist Kazuki Takamatsu(featured in Hi-Fructose Vol. 16) creates paintings that mimic 3D depth mapping technology. Takamatsu executes this holograph-like effect entirely by hand, giving his viewers a glimpse into an illusory world populated by ghostly, Lolita-esque figures. Takamatsu recently opened his solo show, “Japanese Ideology of Puberty,” at Culver City’s Corey Helford Gallery. Take a look at some opening night photos courtesy ofTheonepointeight to view the exquisite level of detail in Takamatsu’s paintings. The exhibition will be on view through May 11.
